Welcome to the
Oak Class Teacher- Mrs K Tomlinson
Welcome to Oak Class, Reception and Year 1! Oak Class children are working hard on their St. James’ journey to ‘Learn, Remember and Use,’ so they can fill their buses to prove that they are the best learners!
The children enjoy Welly Wednesday every week. They learn to understand the world by finding and building animal habitats in the woods on the school grounds. The children plant and observe a variety of vegetables and fruit growing. Oak class also enjoy physical challenges such as building bridges, making bows and arrows, building dens and creating castles. We also do competitive challenges through strategic games and scavenger hunts. We enjoy creative endeavours making spinning tops, dream catchers and creating land art using the natural materials from the wood.
In Oak Class we want to promote a love of reading!
We will be sharing lots of books and stories. The children will enjoy guided reading every week. This is when we will teach them how to read. You can support us in school by reading at home with your child as much as possible. We will change the children’s home reading books once a week on their reading day. Please listen to your child read and record that they have read in their reading record. Children who have read at home will colour a dot. Once they have read at home 10 times they will receive a small prize.
Our PE day is Thursday. Please ensure that the children have their PE kits in school.
Homework will be given on a Friday and should be completed for Thursday. Please complete all homework in pencil and any colouring in colouring pencils.
Our Library day is Thursday. Please enjoy your child’s library book with them and make sure they return it each Thursday.
