To end the second term to our school year we will now begin our woodland topic. The children will begin the topic by exploring the book, ‘We’re going on a Bear Hunt’. This is exciting as the book is celebrating it’s thirtieth birthday.
The children of Acorn and Oak class will learn about the various aspects to a wood. They will enjoy retelling the story through sequencing tasks, small word activities and Welly Wednesday bear hunt trails. We hope to learn about all the different animals which might be found in a wood; also identifying the nocturnal animals. We have lots of exciting books to explore through the topic; including, ‘The Gruffalo’, ‘Percy the Park Keeper’ and traditional tails such as ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and ‘Little Red Riding Hood’.
We have a very exciting school trip planned. The children are going to complete the Zog trail at Gisburn forest. They will explore the woodland areas and search for signs of wildlife. We hope for good weather and signs of Spring for our visit.
In Acorn and Oak classes we will continue to develop our number recognition and addition work. We will introduce subtraction and learn to record as we switch from addition to subtraction. Please continue to enjoy your family maths challenges.
Thank you for all your ongoing support; please keep reading at home and help your children to enjoy talking about the books they bring home to share with you.
