Hello and welcome back as we begin our summer term. The topic this first half of the term will be all about sea life. We will begin the topic by exploring the book The Rainbow Fish, Tiddler and The Greedy Octopus. We will also explore non-fiction books and research materials as we explore the oceans and the amazing creatures living within them.
We have a very exciting school trip planned; on the 1st of May we will visit Blackpool Aquarium.
We hope to extend the topic through both classrooms; through the continuous provision and the outdoor area. In Acorn class we have our very own Acorn Aquarium. Where we can practise using money to buy tickets before entering the aquarium and become a visitor or tour guide.
This term we have lots of fun art work planned; the children will have the chance to look at and feel fish scales before using water colours to paint. We also plan to create clay masque work with a fishy theme in mind. During our physical education sessions, we plan to focus on creating movements and dances to the well known song ‘Under the Sea!’
We will continue to enjoy Welly Wednesday and look forward to the sunshine as we learn in our natural environment. The children of Acorn and Oak are becoming confident readers; we will have focused sessions where we focus on books during guided reading sessions. Individual reading books will continue to change each week. Please read with your children at home and help them to enjoy and talk about the books they share with you.
During mathematics sessions we will develop our number recognition, counting skills, addition and subtraction work. We will also continue to develop our knowledge of halves and doubles, shapes and measure work.
Thank you for all your support and care. Look out for our fishy art work and aquarium pictures.
