Our topic for the second half of the summer term is ‘Minibeasts’. We will be reading a range of books including fiction, non–fiction and rhyming books. We will begin the topic thinking about caterpillars and lifecycles. We hope to recreate nursery rhymes and create our own minibeast stories. We hope to become minibeast experts and plan to develop our knowledge of minibeasts as well as hunt for them in the eco-zone and during welly Wednesday sessions.
Planting and growth will be included within our minibeast topic. We have extended this into Acorn classes role play area; where a flower shop has been arranged for the children to explore. We also hope to plant lots of herbs for our potion station in the outdoor area and grow flowers for our gardens at home.
We are lucky enough to be getting some caterpillars in the classroom which we will watch grow and change over the next few weeks. We will also be having some slimy visitors in the classroom as we observe their slimy snail trails.
Our last Parent Session this academic year will be a Minibeast Garden Party on Wednesday 17th July at 2:15pm. During this session you will compete a minibeast hunt in the eco zone with your child followed by minibeast biscuits and cakes that the children will be making that morning.
As we come to an end to the academic year, we will be working hard to secure our mathematics work. As we secure our number recognition to twenty and continue to add and subtract confidently. We also have a lot of shape, space and measure activities planned and hope to extend this into our outdoor learning.
Thank you for all your ongoing support this year.
